Hallo unsere deutschen Freunde und Familie...
We understand your concern for our apparent ignorance of basic German grammar. Rest assured, we know that our proper name should be DIE BIERHALLE (dē bērhallé).
But alas, our fellow Americans - most of them - probably took Spanish or French in high school. And DIE in America has a different connotation, so this was a marketing decision before it was a grammatical error.
To further elaborate, our founding concept, “Das Bier Haus” was located in Federal Hill, Baltimore City from January 7th 2016 - July 2018. “Das” became the organic shortened version of our name, and people would often say, “let’s go to Das!”. In German, this would sound ridiculous, because they'd be saying "let's go to The!", but "Das" quickly became an endearing nickname when referring to our bar.
When we found the space in Baltimore County, it was a little bigger and a little brighter, and felt more like a Halle than a Haus. So we decided on Bierhalle, but we had to keep DAS. For us, Das is a place, a feeling, an experience. Come get your fill of Gemütlichkeit and don't worry so much about the grammar.
